U.S. ban on plastics ingredient signals urgency to protect public

In late July, the U.S. Congress banned six types of phthalates, a chemical family used to soften plastics in children’s toys, household products, and cosmetics.
The ban, to take effect in January, is the first congressional ban of a chemical in the U.S. since Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) in the 1970s.
