How You Can Get Involved

There are at least three ways to get involved in the review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement.

1. Those who are interested in one of the above-listed nine issues who would like to know how the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement could be help achieve progress on that issue, could consider getting involved in issue conference call discussions among environmental groups taking place during April on how the agreement could better, or newly, address the given issue. Involvement can include a) simply listening in on the discussion, b) making comments as part of the discussion, and c) proposing changes to the text of the resulting "guidance documents" as they are circulated over email. 2. For those who are also interested in the review process as a whole, consider signing up for one of the "review working groups" being set up by the federal governments to discuss the effectiveness of the agreement and possibly recommend changes to it. The deliberations of these groups will take place during approximately April to November of this year. The deadline listed in the introductory letter is March 31, but we at Great Lakes United consider it completely unnecessary to limit when people join the groups and hope to persuade the governments eliminate the deadline for participation in the groups, or at minimum extend it to the end of April. The governments have responded to our request by extending the deadline to April 7, but promise to be flexible on membership forms received over the following three weeks, that is, until April 28. However, to be safe, please send in the form by April 7. You can always decide not to participate.
   
   
3. Members or supporters of Great Lakes United can consider getting involved in our internal process for thinking about the future of the agreement. Our deliberations will take place during either April-June or April-September of this year.
