| A Resolution in support of Ecological Separation of the Mississippi and Great Lakes basins (Advisors to the GLFC) |
A joint resolution from the U.S. and Canadian advisors to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission supporting the ecological separation of the Mississippi River basin from teh Great Lakes basin, and calling upon the Great Lakes Fishery Commission to support this position. The resolution also expressses frustration that aquatic invasive species continue to menace the Great Lakes ecosystem after decades of experience with the ecological, social, and economic devastation to the Great Lakes region by exotic species such as sea lamprey, zebra mussels, and the more than 180 other species that have invaded and continue to invade the Great Lakes as a result of legislative and regulatory inaction, and call for immediate implementation of the recommendations of the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration to address all major invasive species pathways. |

| Letter: National Aquatic Invasive Species Act of 2005 |
The undersigned Great Lakes organizations are writing to support the approach taken within the National Aquatic Invasive Species Act of 2005 (S. 770, H.R. 1591, H.R. 1592) and express concern with the Ballast Water Management Act of 2005 (S. 363). We applaud your ongoing commitment to finding a comprehensive federal solution to the problem of invasive species in the Great Lakes and nationwide. While state and regional actions against invasive species vectors are critical to establishing a fully protective framework, we believe a coordinated, comprehensive, and national approach is the preferred long-term means of stopping new invasive species from penetrating U.S. borders. We have also attached recommendations from the Great Lakes Regional Collaboration process to strengthen several aspects of these important bills. |

| The Pollution of Pisces: Fish Advisories and Chemical Contaminants in the Great Lakes States |
Fish advisories are warnings to the public from state health departments and federal agencies that eating certain fish poses a danger to health because of chemical contamination. They provide graphic public testimony to the risks chemical contamination poses to local and regional ecosystems. The Great Lakes region of the United States contains a disproportionate share of the nations fish advisories. While the states bordering the Great Lakes account for 27 percent of the nations people, they are home to 75 percent of the nations fish advisories and 72 percent of all of the nations fish advisories due to POPs contamination. Fully 100 percent of the Great Lakes waters and their connecting waters are under advisories. |
