Three governors will meet with President Barack Obama's chief science adviser Monday in Washington to discuss strategy for preventing Asian carp from invading the Great Lakes.
Take Action
In the United States:
Contact your federal members of Congress and urge them to:
- Take all actions needed to stop an Asian Carp invasion.
- Implement the recommendations of the Asian Carp Control Strategy Framework
- Close the O’Brien and Chicago Locks if there is reasonable likelihood that Asian carp are above the barrier.
- Take action to prevent carp from bypassing the barrier if the Des Plaines River floods.
- Aggressively monitor for carp, and eradicate any fish found.
- Continue rapid response measures whenever needed.
- Create a permanent ecological separation between the Great Lakes and the Mississippi River.
In Canada:
Call on Prime Minister Harper to request a summit with the Obama administration to ensure that the U.S.-led efforts do not fail.
