Petition: Requests for Public Hearings on Asian Carp

We the undersigned request the Canadian federal Ministers of Natural Resources, Environment and Fisheries and Oceans and the Ontario Ministers of Natural Resources and the Environment to convene public hearings to facilitate the expression of Canadian interests and concerns regarding the threat of migration of Asian bighead, silver, grass and black carp into the Great Lakes basin. Public hearings on this issue would provide valuable opportunities for Canadian stakeholders and experts to present Canadian concerns and inputs on formulating effective measures to address the Asian carp problem and mitigate impacts. We request that appropriate U.S. agencies and offices be invited to attend the meeting, such as the Asian Carp Director from the Council on Environmental Quality, and that input be recorded and transmitted to U.S. agencies and offices working on Asian carp prevention, including the U.S. Army Corps Great Lakes and Mississippi River Interbasin Study.
